Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. This scene taken while in Tasmania last Spring became the subject matter for a recent QLD workshop showcasing low light. The way light behaves at sunrise and sunset is such an endless source of fascination for me. Just beautiful.
