Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. There’s a transition point where the heathland scrub find it too inhospitable to live, and the bush gives way to lower coastal scrub and spinifex dunes, and the ocean opens up in front of you. Such a lovely transition.
