Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on scrap archival watercolour paper or canvas. In my trips to the Solomons I stay at a particular place. This is the view from the mess where we eat all of our meals. It’s a social space, it’s a hang, it’s a vibe. And originally, it was the school that we built back in 2014. That view does a special thing to my heart.
