Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. When it rains in the tropics, it buckets down. I loved watching this cloud dump down on the island in the distance. You could actually hear the rain across the water. A dull roar. How cool it is that we live on a planet where the very thing we need to exist drops out of the sky.
